I am getting confused with reading through the treads about this camera. I plan on buying a brand new dvx100b and was wondering what additional items I should get to enhance it's performance.

-Thanks

EVERYTHING under the sun. I would suggest that you consider what you are going
to film and go from there. You'll need basic audio, basic lighting, filters, etc.
First establish the "need" and the "budget" and I would suggest that you see
this as a long term buying spree.

I plan on making films (movies) with it. I already have the money to buy the camera so that's already covered. Now I just need to start getting into accessories. What should be my first upgrade? I know virtually nothing about cameras and equipment.

Thats great advice. First though get a clear 72mm lense to protect your DVX lense.

Do what I did, read every freakin' post in this section. Then go over to the audio
section, read/skim through those post. Then go over to the lighting section, etc.

You WILL learn exactly what you need for the type of shoot you have in mind.

Indeed Charli!
Since you know very little you should earch around the forums and see people have different suggestions and opinions for every type of budget. Have a clear sense of what type and size of projects you want to do and the people that will work with you.

Hey Morox,

Like the others said, you'll need it all. Sound and lighting is so important. As a very first thing (larger purchase as opposed to a filter or an extra battery) is to get a stabilizing rig so you can get some smoother footage. And while sound is important, you bought a camera, and you can always shoot MOS and add music later if you want, but it's the picture that matters up front. You'll need a bit of practice with that cam to get the images you want and you'll learn quick that handholding the cam alone is shaky at best. I bought a FigRig with the cam and I love it. There is a product discussed here recently called a DVMultiRig (I think) that looks promising. Even a cheap shoulder mount will improve your shots.

So, my vote is FigRig (since I know I like it) or a similar type of rig. Learn to make some amazing footage then move onto the insanity of good sound.

I actually have not purchased the camera yet. The reason why is because I can not find a good place to buy it. If it's an American website, I need for them to be able to use USPS instead of UPS.

If you did not know, I will get charged roughly $600 in a brokerage fee from UPS if they ship a $3500 camera from the US into Canada. That's how insane UPS is.

The same goes for FedEx and DHL I believe.

Morox... give EVS / Abel Cine or even BHPhoto a call and I am sure someone will accomodate you.

Order from EVS, Spend this money on a flight to LA and stay in the shop for a day,
meet other customers like you, And "annoy" the sales stuff, they like it... during this day you will learn a lot.

And yes, spend at least a week reading posts in this forum...
