Hello all! This is my first post on this site as well as the first time trying to do much of anything with editing. I currently have Premiere 6.5 (saving up for Pro 2.0).

Well, I've run into problems on the very first step... capturing.

When I capture the footage from the camcorder (which was filmed in scene file setting 6 on the dvx 100a) Premiere squeezes the image. The viewing box is 16:9, but the image includes the original black bars therefore squishing the image to make it fit opposed to cropping out the black bars.

As I said, I'm very new to editing and I can't seem to find the answer in the book(s) that i've purchased (classroom in a book etc). I will continue to research the problem, but if anyone has tips, even steps from the very beginning on how to fix this, it would be very appreciated.

Thank you and I look forward to posting with you guys more often!

Hello Ariakas79, It sounds to me like you shot your footage in Letterbox mode, which is a regular 4:3 image with black bars added to the top and bottom. If you want a 16:9 image you should shoot in squeeze mode, then capture your footage using the widescreen preset in Premiere.

If you're not planning on exporting 16:9, capture your footage in a 4:3 project and it should look fine. But it will be letterboxed.
