new to vegas

I've been trying to edit my class project. I have vegas 7.0 and I connected my dv camcorder to my laptop with a firewire cable. Before the whole tape could be captured it seems that time ran out and stopped capturing. Then I tried to open a new file to keep on capturing but theres a message that says that the capturing folders are full. How and why does that happen and how can I capture all my footage?

P.S. Also, the images on my captured footage looks "jumpy" or it seems to skip and while capturing I had about 660 dropped frames. Why? Thanks.

Perhaps your hard drive is full? DV takes about 13GB / hour.

To find out how much space is free on your computer: Go into my computer
Click on the folders button at the top if necessary.
Navigate to "my computer" in the folders list on the left.
To the area to the right of it, there will be a header showing how much space is free on each drive.

thanks for the help. i'll try it. Do you think that's also the reason for the jumpy images and dropped frames?

The throughput on your hard drive might be low. Most laptop drives are 5400 RPM, which is iffy for DV capture. Fine for editing; not great for capture.

well, i just bought an external hard drive with enough gigs and it has 7200 rpm's. that should be good enough right? thanks for the help guys.
