New to Cinema 4D ...

... but loving it.

Right now, my favorite commercial of some 3D kind has been the few 1-800 CONTACTS commercials. You know the one, with the free contacts for life.

So, I've decided that in my downtime during a job, I'd figure out how to simulate it.

This is my proof of concept... it's crude and basic, but I think gets the general gist. I used the Mograph Cloner and kept increasing the number of clones until I got the desired effect. I also tried using a particle emitter, but the boxes kept looking as if they were flying out of the box.

My question is this... to you Cinema 4D Gurus out there. How would you have handled this? Especially since there's very rarely one solution to any given scenario.

I still use R10 so I can't help you. The only thing I'd say is to focus on rendering quality, composition, camera focal length, ect.

Creativity is your biggest asset. How other people would handle it I think is the least of your worries. Never mind nor care about that.

Thanks for the reply! I'm with you on letting my creativity guide me... Though since 3D is still a realm I'm getting into, I'm trying to get a decent footing on my tools and what's available to me. I think before I worry about composition, camera focal length, I need to have a better gauge on modeling. I realize my boxes all have horribly sharp non-realistic edges. I feel entirely at home with After Effects, I'm guess I need to start at the beginning with C4D. Its just such a large program!

But again, thank you for your insight!

Here's a couple of ways to soften the box edges.

Bevel: Select all edges of the box, r-click, select Bevel and play with the attribute settings.

Another popular way to tighten up selected edges of a model while under a hypernurbs is to
make cuts close to the edges. The third box has cuts and a hypernurbs applied.
If you didn't have cuts to the third model and placed it under a hypernurbs it would
look like an egg.

Thank you man! I've always been trying to understand the purpose of hypernurbs on a number of shapes. I've tried it on cubes before and wondered why I had no control over things. But I see now you do. I think I prefer that over the bevel edges.

I haven't had the chance to use it yet in practice... but I'm currently working on a small title job for another project.

Does anyone here have a AE Tuts or CG Tuts Premium account? There's a new 2 part tutorial on the C4D DOF with the camera. I'm still a bit confused with it but was able to generate a nice looking effect... though I had no idea what I was doing. I'm thinking of getting a 1 month trial but wanted to see what others thought of it.

@ellsworth... thank you as well!
