New system problems. Lost all my render presets !

Hi,

I just got my system processor upgraded from a Dual Core 3.4 ghz (on a 945 GNTL Motherboard) to a Core 2 Duo 3 Ghz (on a Intel DG33 Motherboard, with 3 gb 667 ram). All original intel parts brand new.

WIth reference to Vegas I expected it to out do my former Dual Core setup, but i should says its almost equal or a tad bit slower. Except i noticed its running much more silent while Vegas renders. The render speed has increased a little. But i expected better realtime performance with HDV. Its not faster in that area.

Also i by mistake copied out the vegas presets folder from C: before the upgrade hoping that i would get my render presets back out of it. Seems i was wrong and lost all my layout, FX, and render presets. What should we do to back-up these three settings while migrating to new installations ?

Hi Wadro,

Thanks for the link. Downloaded it too. But theres no manual or what this application does, as its only an exe given ? Does it save presests, render presets and fx presets etc ?

Found this (other persons post)but I can't figure it out either.. Looks like it works in sound forge pretty well..

Just to get us started.

1. "Start-All Programs-Sony-Utilities-Preset Manager 2.0"
2. In the Preset Manager, highlight FX chains or FX plug-ins, go Edit-Copy to System. (FX chains should give you the video FX)
2. In your Vegas project, highlight a clip.
3. Open View -- "Plug-in Manger" -- FX -- Filter Packages.

If you open any of the audio FX and click the drop-downs, you'll see the GB presets now listed. I'm still sorting this out myself.

The Sony Preset Manager only works with audio presets and video FX packages. Unfortunately, It does not copy rendering templates. :(

Yeah Johhny. I hd some of those complicated render presets that i created with hours of ardous trial and error. Now they are all gone.

Although there is no utility to copy them, the rendering templates that you create can be found under:

C:\Documents and Settings\<account>\Application Data\Sony\File Templates

Where <account> is your Windows logon account id. There are subfolder for each of the renders with the presets in folders below them.

And if we copied that folder out and pasted it into a fresh installation but into the same location would these presets show up in the render options list ?

Yes. If you notice there are several subfolders for each of the render types. Then under that will be folders with a Globally Unique ID (GUID) as the name, and under those will be your actual render template files.

The only time this will not work is when a renderer changes in Vegas. For example, Vegas 6 used QuickTime 6 and Vegas 7 & Pro 8 uses QuickTime 7. The GUID for these renderers is different so they will be in different folders. So copying QuickTime template will not work between Vegas 6 and Vegas 7 or 6 and 8 but going from 7 to 8 should be fine.

I would back up your current folders just in case. All you need to do is ZIP the File Templates folder for safe keeping. Then copy the other folders over and start Vegas. Your old templates should show up. If anything goes wrong, just delete all of the folders under File Templates and UNZIP the file you saved to get back what you had.

A fresh install of Vegas should have no files in the subfolders under File Templates because there should be no custom templates in a fresh install.
