Sony will probably do what they did with their D50 .. and offer an add on adaptor with twin XLRs and phantom power.

XLR inputs and phantom power would have put the price in the $1,200+ range. ( the old PCM-50 was about $1K with the XLR/phantom adapter )

Way too expensive and I had a D50 but got rid of it as it was too limited for interfacing with pro kit.

The Tascam and Marantz units I've compared to the old PCM-D50 were not as good from a battery-life/microphone/noise-floor perspective.

My Roland R-26 has pretty good pre's, long battery life and XLR with phantom for a lot less. But one of the best I've heard in this price range is my friend's Marantz 661 with the Oade Brothers mod. Very quiet.

My Zoom H6 with the XY module matches the PCM-D50 to my ear.

I got 3.5 hours out of a pair of AA batteries while recording on 4 phantom powered mics plus the XY module.
