NEW smallHD monitor... a step back for the HPX170"?

Some love the smallHD DP1 and some hate it. Well, as some of you have heard, smallHD has unveiled a new monitor: the DP-SLR

my question is, do you guys think this is a step back in regard to the HPX170? While this new monitor may use HD-SDI (instead of HD component), can the HPX170 really take advantage of the huge pixel amount of this new monitor? The monitor seems to be for super hi res DSLR cameras... Is HD-component that much worse than HD-SDI?

Also, while this may be a positive for others, the monitor is considerably smaller. Obviously the price will be lower, but for those of us willing to spend the 1k on the original, this is a negative.

There are a few tweaks here and there which are improved, but I don't know if it's worth it. What do you guys think?

It's 1280x800. Of course an HPX170 can take full advantage of that, and more.

The real question is -- can you actually even discern 1280x800 resolution on such a tiny screen?

I use my DP1 as jib monitor, directors monitor, and when shooting intentionally narrow DoF, i'll pop it onto my tripod for precise focus, no matter what camera i'm rigging. (i've had mine hooked to a whole slew of cams: Red, xlh2/s, 550d/7D/5D/1Dmk4, ex1/ex3, fx1/z1, hv20/30/40...) If you are comparing to the built in screen, then ANY camera can do with the extra resolution. (although, the bigger red monitor is quite nice)

What makes me excited about the dpslr is for handheld and shoulder/stabilizer rigs. The DP1 is rather big on your shoulder, where this new one should be just about perfect. I'm thinking of it as an "ultimately articulating" flipout screen for all sorts of cameras.

Firstly though? Its gonna go on my 7d. mmmm.
