New Sky Replacement Tutorial

I agree with that! One of the best out there. Kramer knows how to separate himself from all the others who teach this same product. I believe this is a good practice to follow if we ever want to make it to work for us. General comment but applies to many different aspects in our life’s/work.

Thanks Andrew!
As always a great tutorial!
You simply cover the topics every indy filmmaker is striving for!

Great tutorial. Very solid voice over work, kept it light, but didn't put me to sleep. Excellent job. Also, the content was awesome. I really need to learn me some AE.

Yes, thank you very much for this. I think I might be able to use this to clean up my short film I shot last summer when I didn't know what I was doing and overexposed the sky on all my exteriors (and couldn't fix because of all the trees).

Great job as always!! Guess I'll have to keep buying all your DVDs so you can afford to keep turning out these great tutorials!

Good one... I just finished doing a bunch of these, actually, and used basically the same technique you show here. However, I used Levels (occasionally Curves) to generate my mattes, rather than Colorama. Do you find there are significant advantages in using Colorama?

I use a JVC HD 200.
(you can see half of it here http://www.videocopilot.net/contact.html)

Using levels and curves is exaclty the same in this case wher the white is selected. I just wanted to illustrate what a matte is.

One advantage of using colorama is that you can black out everything and put a white point at 6 o'clock and just highlight midtones and color correct those, or any number of variations instead of just highlights or shadows if you invert the image...

There were a few things I was going to get into on the tutorial but didnt because of time... But you can change the input for the colorama and change it to a color channel or hue or any number of channels to make specific corrections.

With DV footage the hue channel is usually really blockly but with the panasonic cams it can be useful for selecting just a single color and controllling it with an adjustment layer.

I'm sure more matte stuff will come, I figured this is a great conversation starter ; )

Best,
Andrew Kramer

I swear. Every time I think about how I could do something in AE, Andrew comes around with an amazing tutorial explaining exactly how it's done. Thanks again.

So amazing. Love the other recent ones you have done too. Where did you get those earth pictures (San Fran) for the earth zoom out?

I was wondering that too. The only thing I could think of would be Google Earth screenshots... but I guess if you were doing that you might as well just record the video that it does zooming in at much less quality.

Anyway, I love the tutorials. They have essentially taught me After Effects just from watching. Thanks a ton.

Google maps has shots of city streets now in the Bay Area, CA. up close and personal...
those could make for some interesting effects

the latest tutorials are rockin' Andrew. Great job. And the riot gear has been super handy.

Recomended to those who don't have it....
