.New Shooter needs help with his Tennis.

I shot some test footage at a tennis court today. The real shoot is tomorrow.

1 pm verry sunny conditions.

24 Progressive, Advanced. Factory settings.

When I got home I hooked the camera up to a monitor and here's what I saw....

The footage I took at "court level" is fine. However, The footage I have from the grand stands has a problem. All the white lines on the green court look like zebra stripes. Not a solid white line.

The lines look that way when the camera is still and when the camera is panning slowly.

Does anyone have a trick to film a tennis court from this vantage point....is there an "in camera" setting to try...

Any suggestions.

I do not have any personal suggestions but this is common on Tennis Courts even in broadcast (not to the extent you are saying) as the lines tend to DOUBLE somewhat.

I always shoot 24p, but let me ask you; have you tried 30 or 60 settings? Is this for documenting a match or for an actual film?

Re: .New Shooter needs help with his Tennis.

It's for a film. Not a match.

No I have'nt tried 30 0r 60 or even just 24p. I'll give those a go and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply.

What I meant was "Why are you shooting 24p specifically?" but now that you say it's for a film I wouldn't be switching over to 30 or 60. I think part of the reason these lines are showing up are due to the high contrast between the White Lines and the Green Court and how narrow they are.

I imagine you are only getting this annoying problem with the LONG EST shots from the Grandstand? If so, what if you tried underexposing a little until they fade (The annoying zebras)...

I'm just thinking out loud here, not sure if it will work...

Re: .New Shooter needs help with his Tennis.

Now that I think about it...

Why have a LONG EST shot if you can't tame the Wild Zebras?

Why not have an EST shot of the courts (Club, Rec Center, Park, wherever you are) and then jump into the action?

Sorry...

Thinking again
