New Sayno HD1010 and FCE

Hi
Well the forum did say FCe as well! ;-)

Anyway I bought one of those new highly rated Sayno HD1010 cameras. It shoots beautiful HD vids but I wish I coud get it into FCE for editing.

This is my first foray into HD. First test I shot 1080i. Got a high speed USB card reader, put the SDHC card in and attempted to follow the FCE manual. The reader mounted find and I could see the 3 short clips highlighted.

So I went to the Log and Transfer window and I assumed from the manual that my clips would show up. wrong! Nothing! I finally found a button at the top left that said import clips so I clicked it and navigated to the directory. Now the clips were greyed out and I couldn't drag them.

I found out about MPEG Streamclip, downloaded that and immediately got my clips in and converted to the Apple Intermediate Codec. However quite a few fellows on the Apple FCE discussion said not to use Streamclip as there's information lost ingesting the clips.

I realize that new AVCHD cameras are coming out faster than Apple can certify them but I thought that AVCHD was AVCHD, not like a wrapper such as QT.

I'd prefer to use the log and transfer but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I have a MBP from August 2008 (still has the FW), FCE 4.01 . I hopefully got me settings in FCe to 180i 16:9

Can someone offer any help? I just don't know the workflow, settiongs or how to proceed.
Thanks
Allen
