I noticed some shots looked squeezed... is this because you don't like different aspect ratio shots intercut with their natural aspects? I remember you mentioned that on my reel critique, and now I see the opposite on yours!
The first time I noticed it was the shot with the man in his office. Looked way stretched. Maybe I just need some sleep.
EDIT: I now see you did mix aspects..... in which case just check the clips to see if any refused to be their native aspects.
Thanks Ryan. Yeah the editor on that project must have been high because he squeezed it. Thats why I only use a few shots from it (it was my first DP gig). I never got the raw footage so thats the best I can do unless any of you guys know how to un squeeze it?
some of the camera movement start too early and tries to follow the action too late, makes it more amateur than it could have been.
the scene in the barn where the actress has a hot spot with shadows covering her face and footage not color corrected seemed wierd.
the purple sky at the beginning was weird.
the scene after the barn scene with the horses was not color correct.
the scene with the car if you cut out the fist part and clear the camera pump at the end could work, it's the best piece you have there.
the guy walking in front of the camera can be cut out. you always start in the wrong point, let an editor do the reel instead.
that's as far as i have watched, good luck.
edit:
you can slow down or limit unnecessary camera movement(the amount and speed of the movement), it seemed as if you always go from and to the ends of the rails or whatever the equipment will let you, sometimes your moving the camera for the sake of it instead of telling a story.
Color correct doesnt pertain to cinematography. Those 2 shots were effects shots. The one with the red sky was an apocolpytic ending and the barn was a dream scene.
yes it does, if it covers the lighting and drasticly changes the scene.
"red"?, that was clear that it was an effect, just doesn't go with the start of the reel, maybe push it a bit and clear room for something else at the start(also it wasn't done that good, but that's not the issue), the second one was just off, the lighting plus the mustard was just wrong.
