New Reel 09

Your stuff has definitely improved. I was pleasantly surprised by most of the reel, and it's a big step up from your previous reel (which I wasn't really a fan of).

With that being said, there's always room for improvement :) My thoughts...

I dig the song, even if it's a little on the Mission: Impossible side. I think you missed a few cut opportunities with that strong down beat. Changing a cut by a few frames can have a big impact on your edit, especially with such a driving song like that.

I think you hang on some shots too long. The second shot with the galaxy looking stuff, the Adobe one, the Wishpot one, etc. For example, with that Wishpot shot, as soon as it flips I would cut out. Maybe a beat later to show the reveal of the name, but it'd be great if that revealed faster and you could cut out right around that flip. Focus on showing only the most interesting part of the shot. The galaxy stuff looks cool, but there's nothing really going on except a slow push.

I read on another forum that you should observe the 2.5 second rule. Basically, on every project spend your time making 2.5 seconds really good and you'll always have that for your reel. I think that can be extended to cutting a reel and finding the most interesting and best parts. Starting out it's always hard to cut certain things but in the end it always makes a better reel. I think a good example of using your best stuff is the coffee stuff, it's interesting and dynamic and looks great.

I have a few more thoughts, but I have to run out for a scout. I'll try to post some more later. Great job though, keep it up!

Thanks for the great feedback. I will have to look a little closer at my edits. I thought I was pretty good at getting on those beats. I will also look into your other feedback as well. Hmm.

After watching it again I don't think you were off the beats, I just think it's that you'd land on a static part of a shot and then it feels long and it should get our earlier. I'm really nitpicking here because it's a solid reel.

I like your flower piece, very nice and it caught my eye. That and the coffee one are my two favorites. Good work!
