This. Are you thinking of synthetic shutter?
I don't know what I'm talking about! I don't think I could use the tech anyway, I'm not a big slow motion fan.

I know some people that can't stand changing lenses on set when the frame rate changes and they'd think of it as a huge win as far as keeping things completely simple and eliminating the swaps.
It'd be cool if the file was somehow frame rate/shutter speed agnostic and you could dial in shutter speed/FPS in post.
This sounds like crazy talk. Although you could record 48fps and do 24fps from that with 180-degree shutter. But you'll be stuck with 360-degree shutter if you use it as 48fps?
If you're mastering in 2K-4K, only the composition could get messed up over time, but indeed becomes problematic if we're talking about mastering in 8K.
I can't believe the Monstro still costs $60,000.
Sorry I went off the rails - back to reality!
). RED cameras have always windowed down to lower resolution because they shoot true internal RAW and downsampling 2k from 8k at full sensor height would not be true "RAW" acquisition as the pixels are essentially averaged. I personally would like RED to downsample in camera ,even if it was just a "PRORES" option because having full sensor coverage at a 2k HFR resolution would be amazing and would make shooting HFR a lot easier and would require a lot less light to get a clean image..
They should of made a dedicated high-speed camera a while ago. Seems like something they would do since they sell (or used to) monochrome versions of some of their chips (which always seemed odd to me but I guess they had a purpose for some part of the video industry).
A company like that could just do a vaporware cam.
I don't know anything about their operations but I bet some of the stuff is built-to-order (like Kinefinity).
They could tease it on REDuser and gauge the interest and maybe sell a few, and if it doesn't work just end it like with other stuff they've had (most notoriously their phone).
They discontinued the Raven and S-W after 2-3 years which was pretty aggressive.
Grumpy. Time for a nap again? lol
not vaporware dude. the camera is the real deal. stop peddling nonsense.
Reread the posts. I was replying about Abe's hypothetical HFR camera, you broken toaster.
Obviously the new camera this thread is about is real.
