Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

Do you really like those better than tapes? I just too worried about something going wrong with the hard drive. Although I'm sure something would go wrong with the tape about 5 times before something goes wrong with Quickstream. They seem to be pretty rugid...

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

Not QuickStream-related, but of interest to those considering a QuickStream: FireStore has a new FS-4 which is designed for handheld camcorder use. A lot more affordable too, with prices ranging from $799 on up, for a genuine FireStore. Might be worth looking at.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

yeah that firestore is soooo cool.. like an ipod for the camera :) too bad they arnt out right now.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

So when is the FS-4 going to be available? I can't find any release date on it. Looks like it will be a great product if it works, and I may have to pick one up!

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

For the FS-4 their press release said December 2004.

Looks like we're finally getting to the place where DTE will become a reality, I hope this new QuickStream has ironed out the reliability problems the previous one had.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

I was almost completely sold on the nNovia, and if I had to buy TODAY I'd still go with it. But with the FireStore on the horizon, it may very well be worth waiting for. FireStore's been doing this longer than anyone, they may have the most bugs ironed out.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

I have the new QuickStream. Running a 4 hour test capture now. So far its been over 3 hr's and its still recording.

I had a problem with the 3ft cable they sent, it fit too lose in the dvx firewire port. But when I use my 6 ft apple cable I can wiggle it and it stays connected and no lose signal.

The review last clip is nice to have. I have to test it more thourghly, not sure but it seemed like it did not play all of the clip, I will test it out to see what it is doing.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

well I got it, and so far its pretty good, it seems a little more responsive and the review clip thing is just cool. I will be using it for a full day shoot tommorow, so will report back.

2 Months with nNovia and no problems to report. Solid!

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

My 2 QS-DV180's should be coming in this week, so i'll let you know how it goes. PHEW! I've been waiting since February for a working QS. I just hope they figure out a way to trick the dvx into thinking that a tape is inserted so I can do some timelapse stuff without worrying about changing tapes, and wearing out the heads.

I still highly recommend to everyone to use a digital camera instead of your DVX for time lapse work. Will give you better resolution and no wear on your DVX.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

hi hansk,

how would this be done on a dig cam? do you mean locking down a digital camera on a tripod and set it on auto to capture images randomly?

You do exactly as you would with the DVX. Many Cameras have a time-lapse option. I use a Canon G4 from a friend of mine. Awesome camera. He even do some video stuff with that from his cam. If you capture at a low resolution 800X600, you can have a lot of frames on a 512Mb card. Don't forget the difference in Pixel Aspects though.

Re: New Quickstream DV model coming this week

yeah the review is still being assembled I had something come up just before I finished it yesterday.
