So I'm thinking of starting up a new camera project similar to the RED camera.... What would you guys look for in a Digtal true S35mm camera?

Here's some suggestions I got from DVinfo, any other ideas to put on top of this?

3) Shoulder-mount, well balanced, not more than 18lbs.
4) Built-in rails.
5) Option to use 35mm Still lenses, as well as 16mm and 35mm Cinema lenses
6) Less than $10,000 (hey, you asked...)

Good luck!

I was thinking of #2 from the beginning because I don't like having 17 cables either. Its one of the major reason why I like the Varicam over the Cinealta.... no extra cables, variable frame rates, cost much less, ect.

And as far as #1, I was thinking about trying to push 8k and below..... 8k, 6k, 4k, 2k, 1080p, 720p, 480p and even NTSC and PAL (just in case). Or I could make multiple versions... where one allows 8k and below and another allows 4k and below....ect.

And I was thinking of variable frame rates but I don't want to talk about how high I was going to make it.

Who are you?

Are you a billionaire?

How could you possibly embark on something like this?

Just curious. No offfense.

No, I'm not a billionaire. This is in the early early stages. Once I get ideas I'll be able to start looking for people who might be interested in investing. Also, once I do my feature film (theatrical release) and I get profits back, 50 - 75% of that is going to go into R & D for this project.

A feature length film? Building a camera comparable to RED specs? Isn't that a lot for a seventeen year old to chew on? Forgive my scepticism. Jim Jannard's getting a lot of scepticism for his Red project, and I think it's only fair that I spread an equal amount of skepticism to other mad scientist camera projects.

I've actually been working on this feature for about 5 years.... I'm just now starting my search for money. I'm planning to shoot with 3 Varicams and 3 HVX-200's, so I can shoot all 150 pages in 28 days. Plus I have a big cast, almost 20 primary/secondary characters. (I'm hoping to get Natalie Portman but we'll see how that goes.)

Not sure what you're smokin' but I find nothing wrong with dreaming big.

Natalie Portman, 3 Varicams? 150 page script? What kind of budget are you looking at and who do you think will invest major bucks with a 17 year-old first time filmmaker?

I need 2.5 mil to 4.5 mil.... I know 150 pages is alot but I'd rather shoot more than I need and have to cut stuff in post.... then not have it.

I have done a few shorts and done crew work at my school..... I've used the DVX100, DVC80, DVC7, and a DVCPro 25 camera that's not made anymore.

I laugh at your post. Why don't you streamline your script to the basics instead of wasting money on shots you don't think you'll need. It's called PRE PRODUCTION. This is possibly the most inane thread I've ever read, but if you succeed. I'll bow down. It doesn't seem very logical though, so I don't think I'll have to bow down.

You sound like a friend of mine I knew. He would think he would get into hollywood by the time he was 19. He's 22 and lives on the streets now. hahaha. damn... I'm mean.

btw, it may not seem like it but 2.5 million and 4.5 million is quite a big margin to cover.

this is a joke right?
because april is pretty much over. and you're late.

I'm closing this thread for your own good. You can start a new post when you're halfway through shooting your feature. Until then...
