New PIX-E5(H) firmware v1.10

4K on SDI. Wow, that's more than I hoped. I've been waiting to see the final specs on the E7 before deciding but this is making me rethink.

I got the e5 not expecting these updates.
Wow. im blown away.

does the a7s2 output 120p via hdmi? if so does the pix-e work with it?

This update tipped me over and I received my Pix-e5 yesterday, this is such a quality piece of kit, and everything I had hoped for, love the de-squeeze :)

I haven't figured out if it can capture the 96fps from the GH4 yet, seems like 60fps at the moment?

Just wondering if the 96fps is on the cards for the future?

regards - one happy customer :)

Having a hard time myself deciding between the two sizes... love the small compactness of the E5 but wondering if the screen real estate of the E7 is better suited to clients...
I'd love to know a list of camera's that can output a clean hdmi at 120fps...

I'm going for the 7" mainly because I'm just too nice to my ACs. And as much as I'm anti-bulk, when I've had 7" monitors on cameras, I've always preferred the extra screen real estate.

That is what I figure as well. I have been putting off this purchase for months... testing out the E5 and trying to compare every feature of the ody 7Q+ vs the lower price of Vid Devices. Since I don't see any raw shooting on my Fs7 in the near future... I'm still waiting for the 7" version. Though - funny enough - I keep vacillating ... and lost out on a used Ody just yesterday...

I personally haven't tested any cameras.... and currently don't own the E5 or E7 (but have used the E5) - I know a quick view thru my FS7 manual shows it doesn't output anything above 59.94p from the hdmi. I'd love to find out what camera's go above that ... have read about a couple consumer-type cams that supposedly do... but have not been able to confirm this

There is an excellent review and comparison of Pix-e5 and Odyssey 7q+ on dvx
DVX200 External Recorder: Odyssey 7Q+ and Sound Devices PIX-E5H reviewed
If you don't want to read it all: Barry Green says:"... after evaluating these products for the last several weeks, I'd say that if I was spending my money, for a companion recorder for a DVX200, hands down I'd buy the PIX-E5H. It does everything I need, and it does it flawlessly, smoothly, easily."
With the new firmware to me the biggest point is the improvement of the playback functions. It is vey well done now.
I don't think there is a camera to output 120 fps over hdmi. At least nothing in my reach. They just record at this frame rate internally. So this is what I may use with future cameras. As it is with with 6G SDI. It is not even standard. Just BMC uses it and Video Devices seems to be the first company to adopt their 6G SDI. But who knows what possibilities are for future updates behind that port we bought as an 3G SDI.

I'm excited to see this compared to the shogun and odyssey 7q.
To me the PIX-E series seems like the nicest of the bunch. The Shogun trumps the PIX-E if you need to record FS700/FS7 raw. The Odyssey 7Q trumps the Shogun if you want to record said raw/ProRes at any frame rate above 30p.

If you don't need to be able to access a camera's raw output and/or don't need more than 60p HD or 30p 4K, the PIX-E looks like the obvious choice.
Only reason to get a Shogun would be if you want to record the raw output and don't need more than 30p or just can't afford the 7Q.

I understand companies are often tight lipped regarding updates, but wondered if the pix-e devices might be capable of the 10 bit 60p or the 1080 180pfs coming soon to the GH5? any thoughts?
