New Owner Qs on Bag, Battery, and Lens Protection

Hello,

If all goes well, tomorrow I'll take delivery of my DVX100B from Newegg (and start the wondering on the rebate; I'm hopeful). I've been reading posts here for several days, and I hope my questions will be specific enough; I've seen similar questions, but not exactly these. Please point me at other threads if I've missed relevant ones.

First, I want to get a good, soft bag for the camera. I expect to be carrying the camera, a couple of spare batteries, charger, tapes, (eventually) a shotgun mic (if that makes sense), and mic cable. I want an over-the-shoulder/handle bag (not a backpack). Based on a very good experience with Lowepro for my digicam, I've been eyeing their Commercial AW DV ($188.95 from Amazon or B&H). Thoughts on this one? Any better alternatives? Should I go cheapo to start and then pick something better when I've got a better handle on my needs?

Second, the ad here for the DVXUser 5600mah Li-ion battery is persuasive. Any good reason not to buy it?

Finally, I presume that a basic UV/protection filter would be a fairly standard addition (for lens protection), right? Manual says 72mm. I've had good experience with B+W for my still camera, and B&H has a basic UV/Haze filter (B+W 72mm UV Haze 010 Glass Filter) for $46.95. Thoughts?

Thanks for your help and for tolerating my newbie questions. :dankk2:

All the best with your new camera!! I went down the same "bag' journey a few weeks ago when I also took the plunge and bought a 100b. I love the camera and wanted a good bag, looked at EBAY deals on Porta brace and BH deals on bag, slicker and accesories etc. They are great deals but they never seemed to have them in stock. I finally went to look at Lowepro. I have been using their bags and cases for my still gear for years but never thought they were making larger bags for vdeo gear. I bought the commercial AW DV and it is a great bag. I wish I had got the same price you have, mine was close to $300. (Cdn.Dollars)and it holds the camera securly, my barrteriess, charger, collapsed Hyson films Mattebox, my Sennheiser EW500 xmitter and reciever and Tram Mic in the outside pocket, and a Sony Cardoid hand held mic,15foot xlr cable, as well as my Mic Mate hot shoe wireless attachment it would be easy to fit a Sennheiser shotgun or such in the bag as well. I love the number of pockets and belt setup. You can sling it over your shoulder and attach the waist belt which makes it comfortable and hard to snatch if you are shooting in shaky territory or if anyone does they are taking you with it. You can arrange the padded separations to work for your arrangement.
It is not a run and gun bag. If you need a quick draw forget it. everything fits sngly. If you need to leave a mattebox on etc. for for a bigger bag. Hope this was of some help.
