Re: New Nagra?

Its just a hard drive recorder and probably cost $5000. It does 48khz, 24bits, nothing special. get a laptop/firewire audio interface will do better.

not everything that you cant buy - you can make from low end gear .

Re: New Nagra?

Oleg, so i take it that you approve, it's a Nagra....and that still means something! :)

Re: New Nagra?

thats the second hard disk recorder that hoit the market 3 years ago , only 2 tracks , can run 24 / 96 + tc , very rubbost , relible , f.. expencive ( this why it didnt socssid) but its for life time

Re: New Nagra?

the new nagra is named deva. if your a pro check it out. we need the same as a dig vid recorder, multitrack is the deal.

Re: New Nagra?

is that new model just as heavy as the the classic nagra? I still have a old school nagra. Don't use it anymore. Its a collectors item now. Nagras are still really good.

oleg, you pick the most inconceivable circumstance to try to prove a point, who the hell goes to the arctic, plus this thing has a plastic cover and is not weatherized. Narga, has been bought and sold, who knows who owns them now, its just a name, a brand. Those reel to reel were a thing of beauty, all discrete well designed, high tolerance components. Buf this? Uses a off the shelve laptop hard drives, probably a Seagate, uses burr-brown chips to handle the audio. What a diesel truck is to city air and hard drive is to audio. I will tell you this, in terms of digital audio, m-audio is a better source, its their bread and butter. They make a cheap ass preamp that comes close my spec-up single channel $1300 pre.

Re: New Nagra?

lets take to the canadian or north europ air and we would see how much time it would stay allive on the shoulder , if you did work with your computer in the rainy forrest ill be the first to by  your set up , since now sitting on the fance to invest in deva or take the sd
some things are good for home and studio - they dont live outside - if you dont get the diffrent between these 2 things , i am sory
and if you talking per channel preamp , i have friend that can build custom made pre  for less then 500 per channe and its sound better then most of the products in 1300 range - how much cost the preamp is the last what intersting me - the hall setup and what can you do and where you can do it much is the point

Re: New Nagra?

That's the Nagra V. It's a two track, 24 bit, 96Khz, hard disk production recorder. It's been out for several years now. Built to the same Nagra standards as the older analog machines, and sounds great. The downside is it's a little over $10K out the door fully loaded with everything you need. The price to performance ratio is not all that great. That's why it has never taken off, when machines like Zaxcom's Deva or Fostex's PD-6 do way more stuff for the same or less money.

The main problem with the machine is you have to connect the hard drive to a computer to transfer the files. You can't do a simultaneous mirror like you can on the deva to a DVD. That means on a typical tv or feature production you would need 7 to 10 hard drives to rotate.

Re: New Nagra?

This looks like we need to match the tools to the job.

A difficult envorinment needs a robust design that ensures survivability while lesser environments invite tools of lesser rigor with acceptable success. Makes sense, we just have to calculate where we think we might end up shooting...which can be anywhere! and base our systems on these predictions.

The DEVA & other tools mentioned here makes more sense but... I still like the look and tradition of the Nagra!.....I know, it's foolish....but hey!....so are sports cars. ;)

Re: New Nagra?

It's not foolish at all. If the features on the Nagra V are right for you, then go for it. If you want to see one up close and personal, let me know. I have one available.

Re: New Nagra?

Geez, do I have to make politics AND Nagras off-limits as topics? Oleg and ettubaby--I'm reminding you both that personal attacks are completely unacceptable here. If I see anything further along these lines, I'll bounce the posters from the forum.

Re: New Nagra?

Yes, I've seen the errors of my ways, I wish to apologize to every member forced to witness such a display anti-message- board-etiquette behavior.

Anyways, I like those little Nagra SN recorders, I see them on ebay all the time, I wonder about the tape, it looks like it might be the same has audio cassettes?

Re: New Nagra?

Hmmmm... Personally, I didn't perceive any attacks, just people being *slightly* passionate about their opinions.

I had to do some *heavy* editing of this thread. The previous version wasn't pretty. :P
