Hey guys,

I shot a film that was sold to a big distributor here in Canada named Mongrel Media and we just had our theatrical release here in Torono last week. Well, we almost sold out on opening day and now the film is extended another week in the multiplex!

Why I'm mentioning it here is because we shot it in 2008 with the HVX200 and M2 Adapter but the film was blown up to 35mm. I was shocked, shocked! at how well the footage holds up. It was the first time I had seen a blowup from the HVX.

Now the film is coming to LA to Laemmle theatres in Encino and Beverly Hills MAY 6 - 12 if anyone wants to check it out. It will be a digital projection though because the film prints are still being used in the theatres here in Toronto. Anyway just FYI.

Looks great (visually) it really does, and congrats - but I challenge the indy film community to make films that are not about drug dealing gone bad. It seems to me there are other potential subjects. What percentage of indy films are about that? 90%? Why is that?

hey, I have a theory why. Most indy filmmakers know that the majority of people who watch indies are heavy drug users and have all had their fair share of drug deals gone bad, usually losing a couple of friends and family along the way. Suburban hipsters have it really rough.

Personally the only drug movie I liked was Blow. I'd rather watch a movie about a tree that becomes self-aware and uproots itself, then wanders across the forest, searching for his identity. With no dialog.

Hate to sound like a judgmental prude here, but can there be drug dealing gone good? Isn't the usual, workaday drug world kinda not good?

Congrats & good luck on the grind! Any advice for others planning on printing to 35mm from hvx footage? Did you go from 720 or 1080? Flat settings? Detail or coring levels?

I tend to dial down detail, chroma, flattened out otherwise.
