New movie Idea

I am fairly new to this all but have been wanting to do something differant. I have a computer/electronics/broadcast background so I hope I am learning pretty quick as I go.

What I want/plan on doing

I would like to create a feature film. My goal is to bring back the creepy, erie feeling that the exorcist gave me years ago. You know the kind of movie that kept you on your seat and at the end left you with WOW, that could really happen. and want to see it again. But on the other hand bring local folk lore to life

I have an idea of where I want to go with this movie and plot that it will follow. It is going to be based on a local area that has been hainted by several ghost since the 1800's. It is in a town that used to be a thriving town and now is nothing more than a park and tourist attraction with the old buildings left where the deaths, suicides took place

As I am new to this , would it be a good idea to put an ad in the local paper, ect. for help with script, sound, ect... Or any other ideas of any help that Can help get me going on this

And this is for me to have fun, but to learn as I go also.

any ideas or help?

Thanks

You could do a post on craigslist. Or, if there is a college around you, you could post up some signs and such.

Also, since most of these people will be doing it for free, i would suggest giving them a really good pitch, something they'll want to work on.

Food is also a good pitch =P

Even online, you can communicate with fellow script writers for help/guidance to get your script going.

A few things i would suggest if you havent written a script before:

Read a few books explaining story structure.

EX.

- STORY by Robert Mckee
- Any Syd field book
- The Screenwriters Bible for technicallities
- Shot by Shot

thanks
Yes ive been working on learning how to write my script for a while now. there is just so much involved to do this that I never imagined. Learning alot from this site though and seeing what others are doing. The college idea is great. I happen to live a few miles from our local college. So I will give that a shot too.

Thanks

Make sure you have a solid script before you start looking for crew/planning the shoot. If you are new to screen writing you might want to pass it by some skilled/experienced writers to ensure you have a strong script.

Story is king ... so make sure that script is as tight as possible.

true. I am hoping to use this coming winter and spring to write it. and in the mean time build some funds up to get things I will need down the road. I am really excited about doing this. I work from home so I have alot of time . But lately have jsut been doing research and some small shoots and weddings for practice
I have even went to location where someday I hope to film and shot some test footage..
jsut to learn the camera some

First, don't tackle the script alone. Find an experienced writer to help you. You can learn a lot from books, but if you have to learn everything from scratch, this is going to take a long time. I've found the best way to learn is by teaming up with people who already have the skills. And you end up with a better product right off the bat.

The writer can be someone local. That would be nice. But you've got the Internet, so you can collaborate with anybody, anywhere.

Once you get a really great script honed, then start looking for your crew. Choose your director first, and let him or her help you find everyone else. Don't just choose the first person willing to come on-board -- find the right person. Someone who is experienced in the genre you're working in. Someone enthusiastic, who shares your vision of the movie.

It's true that you can learn a lot from mistakes. But remember you're asking a lot of other people to commit their time, energy and talent to this project. So you should do everything you can to make it worth their while -- by striving to produce the best quality movie you can. Experienced people will make this much easier.

Good luck!

Thank you.. I will use that advice.. I def.am not ready to tackle a script myself. I do know what I want but as far as write it I will need help . So hopefull yover the winter I can get with someone with soe experiance and start working on this.
