Nope, you'll get 20 answers but they're all wrong! Unless you're spending more than the cost of your house, you're painfully, stupidly, completely, moronically WRONG!!! ...at least that's the impression I always get from the golden eared sound guys.
Well you see Dave said "sound professionals", "golden eared sound guys" usually call themselves "audiophiles" and spend $$$$$ on very high end consumer gear and ridiculously over priced speaker cables. Every once in awhile we sound professionals make a little money helping these idiots install this junk and we smile and cash the check and go work on real gear.
I helped one of these clowns install new $200 speaker cables (replacing old $200 speaker cables because you know the copper gets tired and needs to be replaced after a few years). He was paying me because he didn't actually know how to hook up the speaker cables. He did "know" though that the cables had to sit on top of upside down Styrofoam cups to keep the "static charge" of the carpeting from impacting the clarity...
