Hey all,

I will be dropping off info through the next couple of days, but we are wrapping up some test shooting with our newest micro35 adapter. I will add the stills and sample footage to this thread as they become available.

First for your viewing pleasure, here is the micro35 with the Sony Z1 HD camera:

I thought that the zoon lenses were not recommended fot the micro35. Can you clarify this, Brian? Thanks,
earon

Earon - Boy, that's a can of worms.

First, just to clarify we don't recommend one over the other - they both work equally well with the micro35.

There are all sorts of debates on zooms vs. primes, and there are many threads that deal with that topic. My *personal preference* is to use primes.

Hope that helps clarify

I'm not entirely certain what I'm seeing in the stills, but I can only describe it as bloom-induced lack of focus.

The highlights (1 & 3) images are very soft looking in my opinion - though this might be my lack of experience viewing the interlaced HDV format Sony camera.

On the stills of the camera itself, is there a reason that you don't have the mattebox / sunshade on the rods? I'm eager to get into one of your units while using the stock riser for our Cavision 4x4 hardshade box. I know you've worked hard to assure the iris rods fall within industry standards - will most matteboxes work with the baseplate as you have it configured?

Hey overland films,

I have to say like others with our first experience with HD cameras, so we were learning a lot as we went.

Our rod support system is industry standard 15mm 60mm center-to-center, so it should work with most matte boxes. I believe we are getting the Cavision one in this week to test out exactly your configuration.

The HD Footage is now posted in the Sample Footage section of our website (note it is the last footage called "Dancing"):

Couple of things to point out:

1. shot at twilight

2. There is a lot of artifacting due to the HD compression, esp. in the greens in the background (it almost looks posterized in some places). HD is tough to present well over the Internet.

3. The little girl bumped her head- that's a butterfly bandaid. :)

Hey All,

Here's some new HD footage of the micro35 with the Z1U:

We shot some more footage this weekend - we learned a lot from our previous (mis)adventures with the Z1, and managed to turn off the most problematic settings.

Production notes:

Shot between 6-7 PM
Zony Z1U at 60i.
Two lenses: primary is a nikon 50mm f. 1.4, secondary a nikon 85mm f. 1.8
Apertures: 35mm lens was left wide open. Z1 aperture ranged from 3 to 6.2

No post other than the 180 degree flip.

I also uploaded a sample uncompressed tif (it's big - around 6MB) at:

Feedback welcome.

Any estimates Brian on how soon you'll be back in production and I can order one?
