New Michel Gondry Music Video... craaazy

fun!

looks like alot of miniature sets with odd proportions. everything looks pretty small. watch it again and you will see that they used kids with masks or midgets with obriens face on it, with jack and meg distorted...same with the props, lots of undersized things and with that "fun house" like lens distorting the hell out of everything it ****s with your perception, definitly throws you at first, but watch it again and you can see their tricks. changing the distortion of the lens in the shots adds to the funkness. the elevator bit is a good example...there really isnt anything going on except that they are in a small elevator with a lens that zooms in one direction.

anyway, thats what i think on first glance...i might be wrong...will look again later and see if im full of ****.

On the shots where they change scale as they cross a room, like when Meg walks over the to the TV and gets bigger, it almost looks like Gondry used one of those rooms that gets smaller from one side to the other, like a forced perspective kind of thing. Then maybe in post he used software to squeeze the larger size of the room down so the the whole thing looks like it's the same scale, and Meg is just changing scale.

I dunno, I'm just talking. Maybe a lot of it is composited. Gondry is a ****ing technical genius.

Damn Gondry is always doing weird **** like that. Like that part in "Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind" where Jim Carrey turns that guy around but you don't see his face.

The shot in the elevator....wow.

Gondry is wonderful. I love this guy's work. Nice find.

Check out the "Directors Series DVDs" (run a search on Netflix or Amazon). He does alot of that in camera with set pieces and continous takes. The Eternal Sunshine DVD has a bunch of extras too.

Saying he's bright is an understatement.

And it's for that reason that I'm sure that was all shot live action, and not manipulated in post.

Just lots of very well thought out set design, funky lens and practice, practice, practice.
