Hello all,

My name is Gaz, I am from Manchester in the UK, I am an ex soldier (17 years for my sins) and have been writing screenplays for a few years.

I hope like most others on here to write for a living, only time will tell?

I have had a little success, I finished as a runner up in last years BSSC with A Soldiers Tale, my first short screenplay I have ever written and have entered again this year with Waiting for Dawn, (probably cursed it now).

I am currently working on a few projects, one is for another screenplay competition this year with Rise Films, its a free competition in the UK, which freebies are a rarity it seems, more importantly it offers the chance to get produced and get an interview with an agent, its Called Coming Out, at the moment, again partly based on some of my own life experiences about coming out of the Army and how difficult it is to settle into civvy street, (I am classed as institutionalised) it is also very close to my heart, I have a lot of friends who have struggled with the day to day life of coming out and now suffer from depression and a few from untreated PTSD, you have more backup from the British Goverment if you are an ex con.

Well thats my two penarth worth, sorry to ramble on, hope to get some good information from people and supply some too (its a two way thing), also are there any producers etc looking for a good short, where do you advertise yourself on here and is Ink Tip worth it.

Inktip is a pretty passive way to shop your feature material (you wait for them to read your stuff), but it does seem to have some fairly impressive low-end (low budget) achievements. Inktip is great as a FREE database for short scripts. I've had plenty of sales thru it.

If I were you, and serious about sending stuff to LA (are you LA bound or UK?) then the HCD is worth the change. You can get old editions (or current sometimes) off ebay pretty cheaply. You'll want either the REPRESENTATION EDITION (Agents, managers, lawyers) or the PRODUCERS (Producers, Execs, etc).

It really depends on what route you want to go. If you want my two pence, then I'd go with agents and managers. And go manager first. If a manager likes your material, he'll intro you to an agent before they take your material out.
