upgrading the ram is always a first if money allows. Other than that I think the MBP is pretty well set up out of the box. Of course one could upgrade the video card and opt for a larger internal hard drive.

One thing I would suggest would be a Firewire 800 external hard drive for editing projects. Best not to run off the main hard drive.

The matrox MXO is a good addition if you plan to be sitting at a desk. That combined with a 23" Apple cinema display will give you a pretty sweet (and correct) preview monitor.

That's about all I got. Other people should be able to give some more insight.

Happy macbook pro buying!

the MBP will be plenty fine by itself as far as being equipped, you shouldnt need to add more ram, and if you want more ram, dont pay for it through Apple. Way to expensive. It comes with the 256mb video card. No update needed there either. Screen is plenty big to edit HD footage, but an external monitor is recommended for sure. Which one is dependant upon you. I think the cinema displays are a bit too pricey personally.

I have the 17" MBP, and one thing I did was opt for the smaller (100gig), but yet fast (7200RPM) HD. I keep footage on externals anyway, and that faster drive seems to be working very nicely so far. The stock 2 gigs of RAM was been fine. Not that if you do upgrage the RAM, the computer will only recgonize 3gigs, even though you can put four in.

thnks guys...that kinda makes me a lil less nervous bout buying the macbook pro. im going to buy some external hard drives out there in hong kong itself. theyre cheaper there, any suggestions? seagate wd 800 firewire? 250 gb? mybe two of those. what ssay you?

ps. as fr my monitor. ill be using my television set fr nw.

I say get whatever is in your budget for external storage. and FW 800 will be very nice. Film some Mumbai footage and share! I wanna see, heard its cool

yeah mann..sure..its ultracool...nothing like it anywhere. the madness.. the life..totall chaos..will do soon
