new lowel tota - won't work

I just recieved my new lowel tota-1 light kit from B&H, and for some reason can't get it to work. I mean, there's not that many moving parts: It's plugged in to a workable power source, connected to the lamp; 750w EMD halogen lamp provided with it is correctly installed, but won't come on with the switch in either position. Anything I haven't done correctly or need to do? Troubleshooting tips? Opened a ticket with B&H, but don't know when I'll get help or how much...

thanks

I'll bet money it is the bulb.

How does the bulb look? It should be clear, not cloudy. Smooth glass cylinder with no bumps or distortions at all. Always install bulbs without touching the glass with the open skin of your fingers. Use clean gloves, paper or cloth to install.

Try another new bulb.

If that's not it-then you should clean the contacts where the bulb sits. Examine visually and look for carbon carbon deposits or residues of some kind (very unlikely to be there on a new light, but you might as well check). If you find something, scrape it off. A little sandpaper or nail file can work well too.

If that doesn't do it, send back to B&H. If it's the cord, switch or some contact inside the light, then you should switch it out for a new one anyways. There's not much that can go wrong with totas, but maybe you beat the odds.

You can check the wiring with a multi-tester for continuity if there's anything happening there...

Yeah, 'cause globes can LOOK perfectly fine, yet still have a break in the filament somewhere. Check with continuity meter (Ohm meter). Switch/cable may also be defective. Try plugging in a normal ole' non-switched IEC Edison cable (they fit)--you know, the kind of cables you use for monitors and stuff.
