looks like sony can start competing in the same price range as everyone else after the first couple of years of the D1 paid off all the R 'n' D. i wonder how much the quality suffers amongst all the cut backs. using that external XLR/phantom power box looks a lot more feasible now, albeit still fairly pricey.
