Is this a fresnel kit or open face? I personally prefer a softbank IV if your going the arri route. Its a nice complete kit with (2) 150, 300, 650 (all fresnel) and a 1k openface. It also includes stands, case, and a nice large softbank along with scrims for all the lights. Ive gotten my hands on them for under $2600. Then get a nice kinoflo diva or the knockoff brands.

If these are openface lights dont forget to either get a softbox or some sort of diffusion because they can often take more work to look good than a fresnel.

Is the 2k for a large set? Desisti and others make cheaper lights if your just going for power/a lot of light. The 2k version is a large 10" housing I believe so it spreads well but its pricey. What kind of production will these be going into?

Where can i buy this from?, But my only problem is durability, I've been told you can get other brands but the bulbs always go, but with the Arri lights, they keep going and going, no maintainance required.

These will be open face, any suggestions on a softbox, Chimera?

The 2K would be used in a large stores shot , I make Commercials and i have the need to light the whole place up?

I dont mind paying the price, as long as i dont have problems, down the track, as mentioned B4.

All i do are Commercials for TV.

Thanks for the suggestions

BHphoto, filmtools, and other retailers have softbank kits. start there online and look what kit will suite you best. They have a lot of combinations. I have one kit only consisting of 150 fresnels for highlights in multi actor situations. A 2k will suite you well for filling a room. The fresnels can get pricey though versus a powerful hard light source.

To give you an idea of how long an arri kit will last you, I personally know that some of my kits have been used (and abused) for nearly a decade by various users and theyre still rock solid. Just watch the bulbs and replace as necessary. Arri also stands behind their products so if you have a bolt strip or a focus knob break/loose theyll tend to it.

Half of my work is commercials/marketing broadcast so it all depends on the job or client. You can't pull off a complex set with just a basic softbank. You can however get a nicely lit set and great looks from it where it is applicable. BHphoto sells their kit for $2700 i believe. Filmtools as well. Then look into a kinoflo diva if you really need a flourescent setup. I prefer the 4 way setup where you can detach the bulbs individually. I used four kits (16 bulbs total ) around a conference table set and it worked wonders because I could control the ballasts seperately.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and goodluck on your hunt
