Such a shame that leica switched over to cmos at the same time as introducing video mode....

the video here shows a small amount of footage that looks like it suffers really badly from rolling shutter

If only they kept the ccd!!!

I don't think that is a coincidence. A full frame CCD that is fast enough for decent 1080p24/25 would cost a bomb!!

The proposed bit rate is way too low for MJPEG of any quality. I would not expect any miracles in video quality. This is for people who can afford Leica lenses, or have them already. I'm sure it may push aside some canon's off of fashion shoots, where the clients imagine the quality is on par with the stills that come from the system. Perception can be a big thing.

The interview indicates that the bitrate is not defined as 40mb/sec., yet. The Leika rep claims they are moving toward higher bitrates now. Leica will probably deliver excellent image quality within the limitations of the sensor (only 24/25p and notable rolling shutter), they simply can't afford to stain their name with crappy video.

Why not their first digital M class camera had image problems, while I would love to shoot video with Leica glass I am not holding my breath for this one.

I had the Leica M8 and the only problem was the lack of an IR filter, which is why they sent every buyer filters to correct it free. But the camera did not have huge image problems. It was a 10mp CCD that to this day is some of the sharpest most detailed images I've ever taken with a digital camera. Leica does not mess around.L1001872-Toned.jpg

I did not mean to imply that the M8 had "huge image problems" just that Leica does not always get it right the first time, and seeing how this is the first M camera to shoot video that there could be some problems and as with the M8 ir problem it did not tarnish the Leica name but it did need a "fix".

No worries. As long as the hardware is there, a firmware update could be to this what the IR filter was the to the m8.
