New JVC GC-PX10 - 1080/60p at 36 Mbps

Wow, 'hybrid' is right! It looks like someone glued a small camcorder onto the front of a small stills camera, it's the human centipede of video cams

Looks kinda like the previously-released (in Japan) PX-1. The review summary of that cam was that is you throw enough light at it, it looks pretty darn decent GH1 level. I like that it can shoot 3840x2160 at 60fps for something like 2 seconds. I'm really curious to see if the 1080p is a good downsample from that 4K footage. Also, it looks like they have prototypes that can also show the full 4K...

Rather amusing sample video here:

I'm not impressed with its attempt at 1080p - but the 640x480 at 300fps is not bad at all!

And not bad for $899!

Damn it JVC - just give me the full 4K one for $3000! It's nearly 2012. 3K for $3K was a 2009 concept. 4K for $3K where it's at.

Seems like we are "sneaking up on it"...right? You gotta think that someone (for under 1K) is going to break the "1080" barrier along with the 120fps (in high-def...even 720P) sometime SOON!!!! I have no question that they will....its just a matter of when. 2 seconds of 4K footy.....we're getting CLOSER! lol

I hope the best for JVC. Best of luck.

just plain silly. no 24p? WHY JVC? Just another JVC FAIL.

If you film in 60p -- you can export 24p from the footage (in the Adobe CS world). For a few months short of three years I've filmed a ton in 720/60p and exported it to 720/24p -- and it's flawless and been broadcast in HD in the Washington DC area.

The only thing you need to know is that -- if you plan to export 24p -- you need to respect all the 24p rules relating to panning and movement.

When I first glanced at the specs sheet I thought it said 2/3 sensor. That might have been interesting, but alas it looks like it is actually a 1/2.3 sensor.

Sounds like an interesting camera. Would like to see some 3rd party tests first, though.

Also, the 4k camcorder from the FDTimes article looks interesting. But they don't even give a model number, so we probably won't see it any time soon.

Camera now on the UK JVC website. Tilting LCD, but no mention of a mic jack. However, something called 'K2 Technology for High Quality Sound'. It does do time-lapse according to the specs. Got to say 36 Mbps is pretty impressive for a consumer cam. Looking forward to seeing some footage.

"Rapid-fire still shooting of 8.3 megapixel (3840 x 2160) stills is possible at 60 shots-per-second, up to 130 shots total per burst"

So.. on a 24p timeline... that's about 5 and a half seconds of Quad HD footage... that could be quite usable, in certain shots.

Hopefully it works a bit like the Casio EX-F1 and you can dial in other frame rate for the burst.

Yes, that rapid fire shooting function shows the processor is seriously fast. I note that on the Aussie JVC website a microphone is suggested as an accessory (3.5mm jack) so that must mean it does have a mic jack. I'm disappointed about the lack of wide angle though, that's a bit of a deal breaker for me. It does have a filter thread so I suppose a wide angle convertor is possible but I don't really want the hassle and extra expense.
