New Jib

Re: New Jib

It has about 5 feet of reach. The camera can be underslung,(as in the pics) or mounted up on top normaly. It breaks down quickly and is light weight. It is patterned after the Porta Jibs.

Re: New Jib

Very Nice. What kind of weight do you estimate that bad boy is putting on the tripod? (Camera and all)

Re: New Jib

i'm working on one that is a skycrane jr. with just one four foot section.

so it is 4 feet total, mounts on a standard tripod and has the same controls as the skycrane jr.

it is a very simple design, just picture the skycrane jr but half as long.

i have to ask the person doing it if he wants me to post more info about how he's doing it for me...

Re: New Jib

The weight is an issue. I'm pushing the ability of a 501 head, but it seems to hold the weight just fine, no problems here. The cost of the parts was easily under a $100.00, but compared to the cost of a Porta jib it is quite cheap. The tripod and the two 501 heads were the exspensive parts. I also have built a Sky Crane copy that allows tilting of the head, i'll post some pics of that as well.

ADDED: I'm putting about 30pds of weight on the 501 head, balancing is important. I'll probably buy a heavy head in the future.

Re: New Jib

Well, I don't think I will be selling these. The heads are too exspensive to make any money on these things, and they really are quite easy to build.

Re: New Jib

I'm flirting with making something like this but I keep wondering if the sticks handle that kind of weight. There must some serious stress with the camera on the end there. Had a chance to use it in a practical setting yet?

Re: New Jib

You say that it is easy to build... How can a guy like me build one?? Are you offering any plans that I can buy?
