New iPodPhoto, if it matters

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

I hate technology. It ensures that you won't be content with your purchases for more than 6 months.

But man are those 6 months glorious.

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

The question is can an Ipod take the DV datarate and if so how would you get it to store a streamed file?

EDIT:

And for that price you can get yourself a Firestore4 (I believe).

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

I know someone who works for a company who makes peripherals for Mac and the iPod. I suggested the idea of making an interface for the iPod for DV recording, but he and his co workers believed that the data rate for DV would be too fast for the iPod hard drive to keep up. But trust me, I would have loved to have seen it happen.

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

That always happens.. I just bought a normal ipod 2 months ago... oh well. For the good of continuing technology!

It would be too fast. The iPod has a very slow hard drive—4800 rpm, I believe.

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

you see.. that's the good thing about NOT buying iPod, or any other fast developing gadget. you can always look from the side, seeing it upgraded by the hour and be happy to *potentially* have the newest thing.. one day.. whenever ;D

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

haha great point of view Shai

Glassblowerscat, you're right. The drives (by Toshiba I believe) are way too slow, so I seriously doubt they could pipe in/out that much data.

I think Apple will have to be careful with adding non-music features to the iPod in the future, or they'll water it down too much and it will just be another Palm-like handheld. It's taking the world over as a music player... why change a good thing?

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

I wasn't suggesting about making the existing iPodPhoto, a device that would utilize an add-on accessory, turning it into a DV Harddrive (ie. Add on Card Reader) BUT instead to make a dedicated type of device like the Quickstream or DV Bank or Capdiv. Taking what they know from working on the iPod and making a capture device for DV creators. I mean even if it was more on the Amateur side, they could market it to the iMac/FCE users. Yet the device would be robust enough for pros to use too. Why would amateur video folks buy into this kind of device? Well maybe the same reason amateur audio folks and even pro audio folks bought into the ipod - to be able to show-off their ****.

I have a 2nd generation iPod and it still does what it needs to do. You don't need a color screen to play music. Apple added a color screen for (i)photo folks and itunes folks. They might just keep adding more features (software and hardware) and have a line of devices for people to use - so maybe a video type of thing for the video people.

If you think about it - at this point Apple is known, by the pop culture/mainstream people, as the ipod/device company. Apple's turning into a Sony kind of company where they'll make all these devices for "regular" people to use. The iPod was just the start. The iPodPhoto is evidence of where they are headed. I remember people complaining about "why would I need to have a color screen? I don't want to spend an extra 100 bucks to see my song titles in 256+ colors!" Not even thinking that, oh, there's this piece of software called iPhoto - "i" hmmmm... sync to iPod - share my **** just like my music. whoa.

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

just saw steve jobs addressing "why would anyone want video capabilities.." etc..
i'm disappointed. like ian_lucero i also think that apple start to concentrate on the main-stream consumers while starting to leave their 'pro' costumers behind.
look at "Motion", look at "LiveType" and "Soundtrack".. all sweet programs, but very commercial oriented. not too much serious pro features.. i mean, it's nice that they sell millions of iMacs and being a real alternative to Windows.. but they sure lost something on the way to the top. pity.

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

Are you saying that Steve Jobs spoke out against video capabilities in an iPod-like device?

Yes, why would anyone want video capabilities, Mr. Final Cut Pro/Final Cut Express/iMovie/DVD Studio Pro/iDVD?

Re: New iPodPhoto, if it matters

which in a way makes sense.. busyness wise...
i was just sorry to hear how determine he was against integrating video into iPod while i personally just wished for this feature so much. Apple started to think big, all they see now is those curves of growth in selling, and how many billions of iPods they sold the last quarter.. and then came U2 and gave their pathetic show.. (sorry, i hate them) .. ok, ill stop now  ::)
