new iphone video format question - which template to use in vegas?

Just got the new i-phone today (yeah, I DID have to wait in line for EIGHT hours, but my excuse is that my old cell phone DIED last Friday- so I really did need a new phone)

Anywhoo, now with my new i-phone 3G in hand, wanting to have some of my video clips in it and it is not letting me sync my .mov clips: It says the format is not supported.

???

Who can help me by giving me the exact begas 8.0b template/format/rendering settings I will need to use in order to be able to render my clips in a format that my phone will then accept when I sync it to my i-tunes.

The idea of having my film teasers in my cellphone, accessible at any time, thrills me... Now if only I could actually make it work!

Please help?

THANKS!!

Simple. Open the clip in Quicktime, go to File: Export: Export Movie to iPhone.

Have fun with you iPhone.

This works only if you have Quicktime Pro.

If you have Vegas, just use the iPod 640x480 template under the Main Concept mpeg4 filetype.

QT Pro is worth the purchase for many reasons.

This is what I do and it looks great!

Great, then, I did buy the Quicktime Pro version but the video I got out of it looked like crap, obvisouly I am doing something wrong .

So walk me through it step by step:

1- Starting with what format the initial vegas file I open in Quicktime pro should be in (what size, res etc...) to give me best results. if I start with a bigger quicktime file, will it help the quality of the iphone video file? Or?

2- I open the quictime file in Quicktime Pro and then go: "render" then there is a long list of options. I saw: a)- i=phone and also b)- i-phone cellular and c)- i-pod and also d)- mgp4

I tried all above and ended with crappy looking video. the MPG4 version was not widescreen and my video got "squeezed".

I await your input.

The Apple h.264 encoder is nowhere near as good as most other encoders out there. Personally, I don't like Quicktime Pro's exporting quality. MC and Sony AVC on Vegas always produce better looking video at the same bitrate.

Start with the original file and convert it to M4V which is export to iPhone in quicktime pro.

use the first option.

When I export my widescreen 16X9 hd 720 project it sqeezes it and it looks terrible.

What settings to use to get iphone video that is the same as my timeline.....I do not care about bars.
