New Intel Chip Imac and FCP 4.5

Seems that the new Imacs will not natively support FCP 4.5 and perhaps a lot of other software. This is pretty disappointing given the power and price of the new machine. Were it only a matter of updating one piece of software I wouldn't mind, but it sounds like most a/v apps are likely to have problems.

So here is my question. Is it worth it to buy the current G5 Imac for FCP 4.5? Anyone using this set up? How is it working for you?

Anyone also doing music (Cubase etc...) on the same system?

The fact that the new Intel Macs would not have any software to run has been well known since they were announced. FCP isn't likely to be ported until mid-2006, and who knows when the music programs will be done. When the switch to OSX happened, the music apps were the last ones rewritten.
I wouldn't think about getting an Intel Mac until next year.

FCP will run fine on an iMac G5. Render times will be slower than if you had a dual-G5 tower, and you can't get as much RAM as a tower, but it will still be faster than a G4.
Cubase should run fine, too. Depending on the number of tracks and effects of course, because again you'll hit a RAM wall at some point (I would guess at least 16 tracks with effects before you notice).

From the Apple website:

"If you already own Final Cut Studio 1.0, Aperture or Logic Pro 7.1, these applications are not supported to run on Intel-based Macs with Rosetta, but you will soon be able to upgrade to a Universal version. And the same goes for Logic Express 7.1.
Apple expects Universal application availability by March 31st, 2006."

Thanks for the correction.
I was talking about FCP 6.0, which will be out in mid-year. But Apple will be adding an upgrade to FCP 5 to allow it to work on the Intels before then (March, as the previous post says).

FCP 4.5, however, may run on the Intels without at port. Rosetta (a power PC emulator) will allow programs to run, as long as they don't REQUIRE a G5.
I don't remember what FCP 4.5's requirements are, but I think it's a G4 or a G5. If that's the case, it should run.

Not that I'd want to run it in an emulator.

The US Apple Rosetta page is a little different, you may want to look at it, too.
