New inexpensive Sony, 1920x1080 60p • 24Mbps

Seems to be more of a competitor to the HX100V with similar body types. I love being able to just put the HX9V in my pocket, or in my cup holder and whip it out when needed. The FZ150 would require me to carry it around my neck like my 60D. Not saying that is bad.

I agree completely. Pocketable is very important to me. That doens't mean there isn't a place for this other form factor that is larger (but smaller than a DSLR). I LOVED my FZ35, the IS was STUPID GOOD. Especially zoomed all the way in. HX9 is better when walking though. :)

Looking for that guy to come and sit on the warsheads ,we shoot at the test range ...... wonder how far he would fly ..............LOLOLOL Very nice footage

Here we go! Wedding video shot that includes various cameras. The HX9 is one of them. The film maker is asking if you can tell which shots are from the HX9. Heh....pretty cool to see this cam finding it's place in the lonely world. :)

HX9 vs. NEX-5N This is going to be my pocketable multicam setup!!! Looks like they will match PERFECTLY!!! Studio in your pocket!! :) POCKETCINEMATOGRAPHY BABY!!!!

Hello,

I am thinking about buying Hx9 as a second "cam" for my 550d. Ok, the videos here are quite impressive, and yes I had seen the canon 600d (7d/550d sensor) and sony h9x comparsion video, but I still had some questions:

- 550d bitrate is around 40 mbit/s, while h9x has 28 mbit/s - is there any problem with fast moving objects (blocking)?

- has h9x better autofocus in full auto video mode that a 550d/600d/7d when filming fast moving objects (auto or motorcycle racing, etc) ?

Thank you.

Fasting moving objects: Yes, they (fast moving objects) will block. It's not as bad as the "non-hacked" GH1, (I'd say it's at least 200% better)....but it will block. You'll have to test it to see. I'm sure there are examples out there if you look hard enough.

Auto focus is better than any DSLR I've seen out there. (Bar none) That's because the smaller sensor makes it hard to be OUT OF FOCUS. (Less DOF) That said, it is still stellar auto focus. Footy that I've seen of the NEX-5N looks good (for auto focus), but the HX9 looks better IMHO. When I get the NEX5N, I'll let you know that comparison. :) I hope this helps!!! Good luck. I love my T2i (it paid for its self easily with photo shoots), and I wouldn't hesitate to use my HX9 as a B-cam in the right situations/shoots.

Wadup Peeps!?

OK, so I just shot some footy yesterday (sorry I don't have time to post it, and won't until the weekend) on the HX9.

I was testing the whole "shoot everything at -2 exposure" with exposure compensation. I MUST tell you that on the screen, it looks WAY too dark. But, I stuck with it throughout the shoot, with the idea that I'd go back and bring up the mids and shadows (cc) and go from there.

After the shoot, I figured I'd look at it on my plasma just to see how bad it looked first. I nearly passed out! NOTHING was "under exposed", AT ALL! It was on the low end, but NOT unreasonable at all. So then I used Colorista to bring up the shadows and mids. DANG!!!! Let's just say that I will be shooting at -2 almost EXCLUSIVELY.

I also messed around with some other ideas, but I need to test them more before I even waste time sharing.

Overall....I am COMPLETELY FLOORED by what this camera can do. I ALREADY had a high opinion of this cam, and now it is even HIGHER!!! I'll post pics and vids this weekend, but I just had to share. Cheers Peeps! Mad love to DVXUSERs EVERYWHERE!!!!!

HHL I have to agree I have just returned from another warhead test , in a very hot dusty and windy place , just this side of hell ;) ....... I had setup the arena of cameras the day before and the Hx9 was paired with a minidv camera each in there own housings , the test was postponed till the next morning which was very very cold, we started at 5 in the morning the next day, so time came to start the cameras to roll, the Minidv was dead , did not want to switch on enoughting...zip, but hx9 was working. The Minidv stopped working due to the cold. Got the footage, as the Hx9 was used as the wide shot , I am still able to zooming in on the HX9 footage to get the near SD shot in post , Hx9 saved my bacon :) ....... ,I found that setting the Hx9 down just under -2 works very well for explosives, You could go down more but then overall picture is to dark, I then fined tune the dark footage in post with good end result also able to get good photo's for data fragments. Ever-time I use the HX9 it amazes me.

Have a ? about the NEX5n you bought, is the recording time also limited to 29.95min's only and are you able to set the ISO , shutter and aperture on there own setting's ?

ust going to wait 17hrs, then go from there. I don't normally do that sort of thing, but it's only 1 more day. :) So, I'll let you know when I get mine sometime next week! :) Cheers Buddy! Glad you are enjoying the HX9 as much as I am!

HX9 STRIKES AGAIN!!! This isn't an AMAZING video, but if I can't tell you how much I wish I had a camera like this on ANY NUMBER of trips that I've been on, (New Zealand, Dominican Republic, New York, Las Vegas, Mars, etc...OK...I made up that Mars part...but you get the idea.) This footy, straight out of the pocket, nothing else, not color corrected, or edited in any particular way....STILL....it's the "wheel house" for the HX9. Dang I love this cam!!! Enjoy!

Here's something I shot yesterday. I used iA and ISO mode with a -.7 EV on some shots. The camera did a great job at faithfully reproducing the actual colors. No CC at all in post, it's all camera. Had a little trouble getting some focus pulls using the focus tracking trick, but all in all I'm VERY pleased with how it turned out. Sorry for some of the shakes, but I did my best.

HHL:

That is okay, thank you.

One more question to the Hx9v users:

I know that this camera record in 50p / 60p, but I need to convert the videos to 25p ( = can be mixed with 550d, can be uploaded to vimeo / youtube).

Will the image quality be downgraded after 50p -> 25p conversion ? Anyone got experience about this ?

No. Progressive frames. No loss in quality. Should cut just fine with 550d.
