New inexpensive Sony, 1920x1080 60p • 24Mbps

Looks like it's been edited with FCP. Slowmotion is not using all the frames that the camera actually shoots.

Yeah, the shutter is a problem when in bright light.

What's important in editing footage from the HX9v is to reduce sharpness and contrast. The image is way too sharp. I bring it all back to zero with 'unsharpen mask' in CS5. Contrast back to 90% or 80% before grading it. You can make it more 'filmlike' that way.
Ofcourse when filming with the HX9v the 'AV' 1 or 2 steps down. And the autowhitening isn't all that good. Always use ISO and choose you're own.

Greetings, Jeen de Vos

Jeen, that was interesting about video sharpness. I understand you can adjust the EV by -1 or -2 in camera for photos and that this will be applied to video too. However, if you adjust sharpness and contrast in camera for photos, does this adjustment also get applied to video? Or does the camera default back to a standard sharpness and contrast setting which can't be changed? Thanks

Yes, it defaults back to standard. I tend to use -1 or -0.7 ev. -2 is way too dark for my tastes.

ASTONISHING SHOTS in this video peeps!!!! A MUST SEE!!!! Holy Buckets!!!!

0:13, 0:21, 0:42, ....

Not to be out done:

HORRIBLE low-light shots:

1:42, 1:52, (everywhere else too)

The good, the bad, the ugly:

I expect to see MANY MANY MANY videos like this in the future from the HX9. PERFECT scenario. Not necessarily a situation you'd want to be lugging around a complete camera setup. The HX9 looks great....and MUST have been a joy to shoot with in this situation. Nice shots in there too!

Yup, great stuff. Now, if someone can come up with a dedicated waterproof casing that works with the lens extended.

DO NOT WATCH THIS is you do not want to be tempted into buying this camera!!!! NOW we're talking!!! This is the guy who did the test shot in post #327. He liked so much he had to shoot another.

Question for those who have it. Is there a difference doing video with the control mode dial on video mode vs video with the dial in a photo mode?

No, when you hit the record button it will default to the settings for video regardless of where the dial wheel on top is.

This video is NOT stellar. I do think it is the MOST LIKELY application for the camera. NOT a professional shoot. Just someone on the run wanting to capture the moment without lugging a bunch of equipment around. Enjoy!

After 2 weeks using the HX9 I am so impressed , I was away in a very remote part of our country to shoot footage from the defence industry , I shoot footage of missiles war heads and motors been exploded, these missiles are not small but dubble the size of a hellfire and can take out a very large building , we generally place the cameras at about 50m away start them and get back to the bunker and await the boom. The camera work like a dream , footage was stable due to the stabilizer, the footage was very sharp, I turned down the EV 1 1/2 to compensate for the blast ,you could see ever little part of the warhead go. the wind noise reducing feature work very well and we able to use the audio wave for data. The GPS and compass is a god send after every shot I had to take photos of the derby field to work out the scatter path. In some case it made my work so much easier to take pictures with the HX9 than my DSLR no settings just take good pictures. Only bad part about this whole trip is that i am not allowed to post the footage of the work.
But have to thank HHL and all others for all the info and work done to date that convicted me to buy this baby . What I now sit with is what do I buy next with all the new cameras coming out .......lololol

Congrats GavinAbe! Sounds like the features that you needed were there when you needed them. I too, am so impressed with this camera. (In case you missed it) lol

Sure wish we could see that footy!! :( (I'm sure we all understand though)

As for what to buy....in my mind, the choice is clear (based on the things I LOVE about the HX9....and the things that could be better) NEX-5N will be in my possession as soon as BestBuy has the in stock!!! Manual control, compact size, interchangeable lens, 35mm cinema sensor, CRAZY lowlight ability, RAW photos, all at a VERY affordable price. Together, I think that the HX9 and the NEX5N may just be "Heaven on Earth" for a "run and gun" Indie. We'll see soon enough!

I'm so happy that the HX9 worked out for you! Cheers Buddy!

I think both the NEX-5n and NEX7 will be great. I am looking more at the NEX7 with all the access Three-dial user interface the mic input etc........ but the NEX5n is a lot of bang for buck ........and then I see the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 12MP 24x 1080p60 also good bang for buck options .....hmm this will be a difficult one for me But the HX9 , one more thing i want to get is a Quad copter and mount it under it .what to do these next few months are giong to give me even more gray hair's .........LOL

Seems to be more of a competitor to the HX100V with similar body types. I love being able to just put the HX9V in my pocket, or in my cup holder and whip it out when needed. The FZ150 would require me to carry it around my neck like my 60D. Not saying that is bad.
