It's asking too much of my 2009 24" Imac to run FCP X so it might be time to replace it. I have two 2TB hard drives I operate from it, a Lacie and an Iomega. Both have firewire and USB 2 but no thunderbolt. The Lacie has a eSATA port. I don't want to have to replace either of the hard drives at this stage as they're fairly new so have some concerns about speed with a firewire to thunderbolt adapter.
I am considering opting for the slightly slower of the 27" models with 16 Gb of RAM. I'd be grateful for any feedback from those who are using this configuration or have experience with it and how likely it is to cope with FCP X. If it's of relevance, I have a AF100 so file format is AVCHD which I import these directly into FCP X.
I'd also appreciate some advice as to whether upping the memory on the 24" Imac is an option worth considering. It's equipped with a mere 4GB. The speed is the same as the new Imac but it is intel Core 2 Duo as opposed to the new Quad core intel Core i5. My current Mac has the NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512 MB whereas the new Mac would be equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M with 512MB. I could up this to 1MB if I run with the slightly faster new Imac.
