Hey hey hey--Been reading the stuff on this place for a few months now. I just got the grand-daddy cam a month ago- and i just registered on this site today..looking forward to all i can do with the dvx!! you guys have any starting off advice?

Baby your camera. Get a clear protection filter on your lens ASAP.
Better to have a scratched/chipped/dinged/dented filter than a permanently ruined lens.

Welcome to DVXuser.com

I'm in the same situation you are. Been reading the forums for a while now, and I just recently registered. Also ordered a DVX100A about a week ago from B&H. Hasn't shipped yet though.

EDIT:

Anyway, welcome.

welcome guys.. once you get your cameras you should enter one of our shorts contests, win some prizes to wrap around that camera.

I agree with Jarred. The 'DVXfest' hosted by DVXuser is a fantastic opportunity to practice the craft and art of filmmaking and have a chance at terrific prizes. Highly recommended! You can find out more about it every month by visiting the 'DVXFest Monthly Contest' forum.

Good luck!

re: UV filter, online isnt the only place you should look. Legend has it there there is this ancient book that, full of secrets, tells of magical places.

With saucer wide eyes I watched as my grandfather Chester Copperpot retrieved it from our attic. "It is no myth" he weezed, as he brushed away dust with his gnarled digits, a twinkle in his eye.

Its pages were fragile, and yellowed, as if it had been up there for centuries! Grandfathers fingers walked through the pages, and stopped on "photography". A crack of thunder rumbled from outside as he wispered to me "seek my boy, and you will find"...

The little bell on the door jingled as I stepped into that same photography store years later. With no website to its name, and with a cash register that actualy "chinged", I found used tiffen filters, in perfect condition for $5, camera cases with genltle scratches for $15, gels, lights, sanbags, all used and for a fraction of the cost.

All my run-on melodramatics aside, seriously-check out the phone book, not your online phone book, your actual local yellow pages and look up photography and you will find many that carry used gear. You can save a ton on on your new set-up for your new cam.

i got a tiffen clear UV filter off ebay for like $30

dont buy the uncoated tiffen filter, you want a multicoated one, unless you are just using it as an optical flat for protection against flying bullets.
