New HD DVD player to debut in time for holiday could be $150.00

I just bought a Toshiba HD-A2 at Costco. It is a great little HD-DVD player and for watching films, 1080i is pretty much a non-issue; films are progressive carried within 1080i and most HDTV's can recognize the cadence and remove the pulldown for interlace-free viewing, and at full 1080 rez. I know my Vizio 1080p does just fine with 1080i.

Brandon--it would be insane if it didn't play SD DVD. The Toshiba not only plays them, but upconverts to 720 or 1080i extremely well.

At prices like that, HD DVD is definitely going to have a solid shot at winning the format war.

Yep no doubt considering a Blu-Ray player won't upconvert your old SD DVDs. You must be connected trhough HDMI for the upconversion through HD DVD players but even without HDMI it will still play the SD DVDs just not upconvert them. Hope that helped Brandon.
