New Hd Dvd Format To Compete With Hd-dvd & Blue Ray

As if two hi-def formats aren't enough, a British tech developer is readying a third for market over the next few months.
HD VMD boasts the capacity of HD DVD and Blu-ray discs, but uses existing DVD technology, making for much lower costs. The catch: None of the major studios have signed on yet.

Well, I gotta say, I like the idea of there potentially being free software to allow the discs to be played on a computer. But if there are no movies, that is pointless.

What would be nice, is the potential to buy a burner of this type (for cheaper) and use it just to archive HD footage in its raw form 50 gig at a time.
