New Guerilla35 foogtage

We have some new video under the demo section on the site now. It is the footage that accompanies the screen grabs I posted earlier. It's a clip from a bigger piece I'm cutting together for my family. The guy in the video is my great uncle who lives in the hills of NC. I shot the footage you see with a DVX-100a. I don't recall the scene settings, as I didn't change them from the owner’s settings. The shutter speed was set to 1/48th of a second. The taking lens was a Nikon mount Angenieux f2.6. Nothing was done to the image in post other than the 180 degree flip. Thanks!

GO APE!

I sent an email to your web site expressing an interest in the G35. I never received any response back. Did you get the email? Dave Stone

Dave,
My apologies, I just got back into town and am sifting through the e-mails today. Thanks for your patience!

The footage looks awesome, although the shooting style is pretty rough (I'm sure that's intentional.)

Just a heads up: it looks like you deinterlaced 24p footage instead of removing pulldown. There's some clear interlacing artifacts and some frames are doubled.

Looks nice.

But just wondering, if you shot a feature with the unit. I know it softens it. So it would soften more if you had to do a 35mm film out.

The reason I'm asking the odds are pretty good that you won't get a film out, but who knows with my luck. I've shot four films on 35mm and all got released just to dvd, video, tv, etc.

So like I said with my luck is I'd shoot something not expecting a film out and then they'd want one. So that's the reason for my question.

Gary, I asked a similar question and recieved a link to some footage of res charts, shot with an older version of the adapter, I think. The results are pretty good but framed incorrectly so you can't determine actual resolution, just resolution relative to the dvx without an adapter. I'm not supposed to post the link for bandwith reasons, but I can upload some PNGs of it if you want (and if I have permission; if I don't I won't.) Long story short, there's not much loss of resolution, but there is a little softening.

Great question, I have been offered some free film transfer time so I will get a better idea of how it will hold up at that time. We are currently trying to make the most versatle adapter for under $1500. This is what I do know. We are a static solution. As a result we have been forced to come up with a method of making grainless focusing screens instead of moving the grain around. I would think that our image would be clearar than a moving device that has grain. All of this is conjector untill we can actually do side by side tests. But it makes sense to me :)

Policar,
Thanks for your post. Yes you have my permission. Thanks for asking!

Thanks, No the crappy shooting was not intentional :) Thanks for giving me the benifit of the doubt though  Most of the foogate will be cut down further for the longer version.

Hmm..interesting. I am in no way a DVX guru. How can I just remove the pulldown in the future?

Side by side test with the moving device will be nice. Looking forward for some more about this.

Jonathan, other software can do it - but a lot here swear by Sony Vegas (now ver.6) since you're a PC guy...

HaHA! I see you have mistaken me for my alter ego Doug. He is the PC guy I am the Mac guy. We are the best of both worlds. Great, so now you are going to tell me I have to tell him that his PC does somthing better than my Mac? He is going to love that.

Res chart images...

Res chart images...

Here are a few images from the rest chart test. The framing isn't perfect so you can't tell how many lines of resolution, but it seems about the same as the dvx without an adapter, at least to my eye.

No adapter.

Final Cut Pro's cinema tools and Adobe After Effects both offer methods of removing pulldown, by the way. If you shoot in F6, you can just use "Remove Advanced Pulldown Removal" within Final Cut Pro (version 4 and higher.)

So here goes the question that sounds like an old record.....

Any idea as to when this device will be ready to sell in the market. I am trying to make a desicion in between the Micro35 and the guerilla35. It seems to me that the guerilla35 might serve us better just for the fact that we can adapt it to our cameras and go...the Micro35 might be more suitable for a tripod scenario...more bulkier.

So any ideas as to when we will see it on the market?

We are shooting for late July. That's the projected release of the machined version. For those who can't wait we will put you together a 72mm thread mount version for $999. The optical path is the exact as the final version however not quite as sexy looking.
