New go-to camera for docs?

Ran across this post about Sony's new NEX FS 100, but along with that, it mentions the new HXR-NX70E

Not sure about pricing and specs yet, it won't be out till June, but THEY CLAIM it's weatherproof and with a 96GB internal drive, this could be super useful for doc producers roughing it in dusty or wet environments. Of course, that article doesn't have any data on the codec it uses, it's a CMOS sensor, and there's no pricing yet. But still, I'll be interested to see the footage when it comes out. They're marketing it, it seems, as a camera for journalists and doc makers, and while I can't at all afford a new camera, I must admit, the idea of not having to fumble with cards OR worry about inclement weather is attractive.

And if it shoots AVCHD, for example, you can fit an awful lot of footage onto a 96 GB internal drive. Anyway, interesting! There's another new camera there too, but it looks like it's basically just the Sony version of the AF100.

Very cool cam, along with the Pana AG-AF100! However, the ergonomics is horrible. Viewfinder on top?? How is that supposed to work? That's why -- as a doc shooter -- I would never buy it. We need ergonomics like this:

As far as "go-to cam" goes, there are as many as doc film makers ;-)

Just picked up the canon xf305 for doc use. Impressed with it. The specs for it are very interesting. Bought it in lieu of an ex-3. I know, " it's not large sensor". I have 7d. This blows it out of the water on all counts, IMHO, other than raw DOF.

Yes, go to cam is just a marketing term. It's all about the right tool for the job. Most pros seem to still be using dv! Go figure!

Your shooting style will decide what is best for you. If you are on the run, a small shoulder mount cam might be the ticket. For Panasonic, at the low end = HMC-80. Next step up = HPX-370. I'm sure Sony has models also.

Handy cams are...well handy, but shooting for any length of time hand held is a test of your abilities. So for me, the big question is whether or not you can use stix or not.

Yeah, that xf300 is an amazing cam. You can always add a dof adapter if you want shallow dof, but you said you also have the 7d. The Sony fs100, is the cam for me. Im thinking of putting a deposit on it today. Although I just bought a gh2, and a t3i a few weeks back. My wife will freak if I do, So I have to be HUSH- HUSH. lol.
