Hi
Im fresh out of school and ready to make a name for myself. Ive been getting gigs here and there but obviously not enough to support myself. I also want to produce my own films but find myself taking unrelated and time-consuming work to pay the bills, resulting in little progress. Does anyone have a simular experiance and found a way out of the slump?

I was the same way -- fresh out of school and wanting to produce my own films, but wedding gigs and other bill-paying jobs were taking up all my precious time... so I quit doing paying work and have spent the last 3 years on my own projects, self-financing with credit cards all along the way.

This approach is not for everybody, obviously, because you can only do that for so long before you either need to have produced a marketable product or you have to give up and go look for paying gigs again.

embrace teh wedding gigs, infact go all out on them, for a bout 8 months, save up 10-15 K make your short, Rinse repeat.
