New Focus Proxy H.264 Portable Video Recorder

I find it very interesting by the lack of responses. While everyone else is making higher-than-the-camera's-codec portable recorders it seems like these Focus drives a niche alternative to people that want to go straight from camera to online.

The best use I could see of this would be for producers to walk away with footage. They don't need Prores HQ to see the day's footage, so one of these recorders next to a Ki-Pro Mini, could take a load off the DIT / media wrangler's duties.

Cheers for posting this! I'm actually watching this product with great interest; I'm heavily involved in a niche video industry for a major corporation that could take tremendous advantage of something like this. I've tried contacting a sales rep at Focus and no response so far.

well the nanoflash can also record at a very efficient bitrate and still make it ready for the web to edit. or you can shoot on a canon dslr and you'll already have it as h.264 ready for the web. but still this seems like an interesting device! I personally use turbo h.264 on a mac to quickly convert files to h.264

True, the NanoFlash has that flexibility; I'm curious what the price will be for the Focus FS-H70.

I could also really use a similar device that records MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 with user-definable bitrates. Anybody have any suggestions?

AVC Intro is also h.264, but neither are even CLOSE to being ready for the web. It looks like these recorders have settings between 100kbps - 5Mbps, which is a lot more reasonable as web-ready.
