New flapjack led edge lights

Hello, We need some led light kits recently. Softer ones are better. Just found this edge lights. The description said " Edge Lights are our newest idea on LED Lighting. Instead of forward-facing LEDs like in conventional panels, the edge LEDs are mounted around the outer edge. Aimed inward at layers of diffusion material. Instead of a direct beam, its bounced light approach produces a soft, even glow with no hotspots. It's perfect for filling in shadows, or using as a glamor light. "

It doesn't need any modifiers, like filters, softboxes etc. If so, it's good for our job. Did any guys have this lights ? I found they were almost same as the Fotodiox's.

40 watt power draw with a 120 degree beam angle means you won't get much brightness from them. Perhaps equivalent to a 300 watt diffused tungsten, or a 100-150 watt non-diffused tungsten. Might be bright enough for some scenarios but often not.

I'd be interested to see a higher power version with the same concept.

Right now the only (relatively) small, soft, and bright LED lights I know of are remote phosphor lights such as the Cineo and Area 48 lights, which are great aside from their high price.

" The FlapJack produces bounced light rather than a full spotlight, so you don't have to work hard to create soft, beautiful light. It's almost like having a softbox built right in. Great for fasts setups, as for interview situations. "

Found the description on the site. This lights don't need any modifiers. Although the output is not so much, it can be used as soft lighting directly. Filters, softboxes can help common led lights to create softer effect. But they also reduce the brightness. As they said, the lights won't blind eyes and can look straight directly. So I'm interested in the results from this edge lights.

Cineo and Area 48 lights are great ones. But they are not cheap :) One Area 48 light can get several large ones from the seller.

Flapjacks provide a great diffuse light in a small efficient package... just not very bright. Works well for quick efficient fill or backlight.
