Sound Ninja
There was a post that disappeared. I'm assuming that it was because it was developer announcing a product which is a no-no. Though it's kind of a soft one since there are actually a fair number of self promoting posts. But this was pretty blatant.
Anyway I think it's something that a few folks would be interested in and since I have no connection at all to the developer I can post about it and be kosher.
It's not for everyone. I personally would rather write notes on a paper sound report but there are plenty of folks that would be really into it.
The link is here.
It's a sound report app for smart phones. The link is to the iPhone version but there is apparently (or will soon be) an Android version.
It looks handy, especially if your into using your phone for things. The upside is you will have it around, so it might be handy to have even if you only kept it for emergency use. Forgot to pack sound reports, your pen blew up etc. Another plus is that you can send it to people from the phone so you don't have to make a copy before you hand it off and there will be a backup. It also looks easy to use in practice.
The down side to all apps like this is that it's not easy to jot down random notes and your working with a phone sized interface. Since it should work on an iPad also or the Kindle Fire that may be a better place to have it.
Probably someone who worked differently than I should do a review also since I'm either recording FX (voice slate) run and gun so no sound report, or using BoomRecorder, which generates it's own sound reports.
I can say from using BoomRecorder that it is nice to be able to write a detailed not while a scene is happening sometimes so...
Anyway it would be great, for my post work, if the new wave DSLR folks embraced it because they as a rule don't do any reports and tend to be dodgy with slating so any kind of documentation would be a huge boon to post.
I do think it's probably a little pricey for what it does. You can get slating apps that cost less. They are not as optimized for sound but?
I know we have some iPhone app junkies here so one of you go grab this thing and report back.
