New DVX :)

Hey, My new DVX100a is here. :) Thank you Rush. (and Jan). I only have 11 blank tapes to get me thru until Monday. I hope it is enough. :) I do have to read the whole manual first (or English half), so that will burn up some daylight today.

But when I tilt it, it sounds like there is something loose inside rattling around. Is it broken?

There were a few thousand DVXs going around that had some kind of a defect.

John Hudson knows more about it.

..dude you are so screwed. that happend to an assiciate of mine and it was because it was a grey market camera. i guess they actually remove the licensing chip inside the cam. but if it gets left in there it just slides around and scratches up the optics. he eventually had to take his in to have th lense changed.. haha yeah right.. it cost more than buying a new cam. and his warranty was from singapore since it was grey market. .. dont tilt it man.. its only getting worse every time.

There is a fix though. In order to recalibrate the CCD's, you need to take it into a dark room (closet will work), and turn it on for 30 minutes. Periodically go and zoom in and out so the chips can realign with the CCD's. This should help out.

Why are all of you spreading those lies? I thought that I cleared this up last month - That rattling noise is from a unplublished feature in the DVX. (And panasonic currently denies it.) Here is what uis going on: Inside each DVX there is a little man who actually controls all of the features. So when you zoom, he runs to the lens and moves it. When you turn on the zxebra pattern he draws it on the lcd really quick. You get the idea. Well the clunking sound you hear means that you have killed him. He is dead, and that's his body rolling around inside the camera. I'm guessing that you forgot to feed him. :)

Knock off the jokes

Knock off the jokes

Hey, there's nothing wrong with your camera - every DVX does that, just a quirk. I have a DVX and DVX100A, which I shot a feature film with, and have used for many outside projects, and they both did from day 1. These guys are trying to give you a hard time, but that's not what this forum is for. Remember when you were fresh, guys? Cool it off.

Oh, and if you do a google search, maybe "DVX100 rattle" you'll find info about the actual cause. But just ignore the sound. It's inconsequential.

Waltind, this a serious matter. Galt is one of the unlucky ones who purchased one of those defective DVXs. Kais advice should work but keep it on for an hour instead of 30 minutes and zoom in and out. Make sure is in a DARK room.

..hiarious, i find it amusing that someone with 8 whole posts is telling us what this forum is for. lol :)

anyway were just having some newbie fun.. its done all the time here at DVX user .. especially with this particular question.. you dont have to scour the net for the answer.. its clearly noted right in the users manual for the camera. when others were new here they got the same type of answers for the same question..

its actually a DVXUser tradition to haze newbs who ask that question..

anyway seeing as your new too.. :)

lighten up a little.. were a fun lovin bunch (obviously) . more based on community than on being robotic about the information we share.
welcome aboard!

NO_CA$H - Your right this is a serious matter. I've heard that the trick to the dark room and zooming in & out is that you have to be with the camera the entire time. If yoiu leave it, even for a minute, it will not work and you have to start over.

must say when I first got my camera that click really freaked me out for a while. didn't know of dvxuser, and sure that if I had, I would have made myself a huge target for a little hazing.

I was fortunate enough to have visited this site many times before actually getting my DVX, otherwise I'm sure I would have gotten bit!

Now now, there's no need to jump all over the guy. He's just looking out for his fellow DVXuser. His intentions were good.
