Hey I was on Walter Graff'fs site today checking out a few articles. He is coming out with four more instructional DVD's in February. I got his first disk on shooting interviews which was awesome! Just thought I'd tell you that he has a link to put your name on a notification list when the the new ones are ready. Here is the link. Look down at the bottom of the page, he added the new stuff recently

He's working on 5 at the moment, according the e-mail that I got from him-- taking a scene and lighting it five different ways. I haven't checked out the link above, so it may already say that...

Let me just say that his first DVD, although a touch rough around the edges, is a knockout for the money, especially when compared to some of the other ones on the market. I shared it with the entire production staff & freelancers.

Walter knows what he's doing & is comfortable explaining it. I'm hoping to get up to one of his seminars later this year.

Hi David:

I have watched the first DVD "The Head Shot" numerous times, and each time I pick up on a subtlety that enhances what I learned from the previous watch. I also ordered some dimmers from Walter which he makes himself. They are smooth, rugged, durable and built like a tank.

I emailed Walter with some questions last week and we got talking about the DVD. He said his first one was a test and so he wanted to simply get it out there to see how it was recieved for content. Plus he said a project came up for him that forced him to rush it out faster than he expected, that he had delayed it already at the time due to another commitment but had folks who ordered it screaming for it, so he let it go without the polish but that even with the 70% he put into the finished product it was still some 80 hours of editing.

Again, rush job or not, I think these are easily the greatest value for the money out there. I've been doing this for 10 years now (which certainly doesn't make me an expert, of course), and I STILL learned a whole new batch of tricks and new things to try. I'm still amazed by just how quickly and efficiently Walter can work on set.

I think that with each of these new DVDs running between $22 and $27 (plus around $5 shipping, I think), you can't go wrong. I can buy all four of these for less than what I've paid for other single lighting DVDs.

While I'm certainly not shilling for Walter (although I certainly admire his work), I DO believe that these are the best value for the money, and I was VERY happy with the quality of knowledge that I took away from the first one.
