New Dji Osmo action camera

Battery life is 60 minutes or less in 4K

No H265, no image stabilization when shooting HDR, no extended recording time batteries out of the gate, same crappy Sony imager as the Go Pros. Meh.
I have a ton of Go Pros, we were recording with up to a dozen of them on ocean racing boats last year with failure rates as high as 60%.
My Hero 7 refuses to work with our ReFuel 6 hours batteries. Even in the nuclear daylight of Utah hiking a few weeks ago, the blacks are REALLY noisy and I usually am not that picky about noise.
And the DJI uses the same exact imager. The only real excitement is that hopefully the second gen of this will be better AND/OR, it will light a fire under Go Pros butt to make the Hero 8
significantly better. The new Go pro app is terrible, the menus on the Hero 7 are a mess. The Hyper Smooth and Hyper Lapse are great and picture overall is a little better than the 5 and 6.

I'd gladly pay $800.00-$1,000.00 for a more professional action cam (better lens, larger imager, huge battery life, no noisy blacks, better low light) but nobody will make one because the market for us pros is too small.
Action cams are for consumers and athletes who want social media clips. Pros like the Grand Tour guys put GH5s in housings with huge external batteries or DC from car but to do that waterproof makes them big, heavy and expensive (about $5k for everything per cam).
Not realistic for our needs

I'd gladly pay $800-1000 or so for a good action cam also. But as you said, that price would blow them out of their target market and the people willing to pay that for them is small. So I guess we will just keep having to deal with the consumer action cams and all their limitations and quirks. Action cams are very useful
