New concept drive due out this spring

From Seagate. Battery powered, 10 and 20 GB configurations, retail price around $150 - $170 dollars. Ultra small, USB port, WiFi and Bluetooth built in. Might be a way to transfer info from P2 cards and then upload the files wirelessly to a laptop.

Sounds cool - though I don't know how much it will help with P2 footage transfer.
It seems like Panasonic is probably going to have 16GB cards this year... so a 20GB drive isn't going to be all that much help.

For that price point, I thought maybe getting several of them would be a good way to get the footage off the cards so you can keep shooting. Then you can transfer them to a laptop, etc., at the end of the day.

Always looking for something to help get the job done....

but there isn't an advantage for HVX footage... wifi would be ok speed to copy files/offload but firewire is waaay faster, and how would you give your camera wifi capability... It does sound cool for Treos and such though... hold all kinds of video and all of your iTunes music library playing on your phone from your backpack

I see your point, USLC. What I was thinking was to have the operator download from the camera to the DAVE via USB and then keep shooting. The operator could hand the DAVE to an assistant to transfer the files to a laptop, or keep the DAVE and have the assistant transfer the files to the laptop via Bluetooth.

Is the transfer time really that much longer for USB vs. FW?
